About Don't Forget
Don’t Forget is a 3‑D single‑player story and exploration game that draws its premise from dementia. You awaken in a vaguely familiar place holding only a journal, and must search for clues while playing brain‑stimulating minigames to recover lost memories.
The title was created by a six‑person student team at Hogeschool West‑Vlaanderen and released as a free‑to‑play experience on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It includes Steam achievements and supports Family Sharing, allowing multiple accounts to enjoy the same installation.
01 / THE GUIDE
Story and Setting
The opening places you in a vague, familiar environment with only a journal as an anchor. You have no recollection of how you arrived, prompting you to retrace steps to understand the situation.
The narrative unfolds across three distinct areas linked to your past. As you move through these spaces, fragments of memory surface, gradually revealing why you are experiencing the illness and what led you here.
- Observe environmental details; they often hint at personal significance.
- Note journal entries; they can point toward unexplored sections.

Exploration and Journal
Exploration is guided by the journal, which records each recovered memory. Recovered memories are added to the journal, expanding its content and giving context to the area you are in.
The three areas are designed for open‑ended exploration. As the journal fills, it provides narrative clues that help you keep track of progress and understand the connections between locations.
- Check the journal after each clue to see how it expands.
- Return to earlier areas; new entries may reveal details you missed.

Brain‑Stimulating Minigames
Recovering memories requires completing a series of brain‑stimulating minigames. These puzzles serve as the primary method for adding new entries to your journal.
Each completed minigame contributes a piece of your past, advancing the story and helping you understand the cause of your condition.
- Treat each minigame as a separate challenge; focus on its specific mechanics first.
- If a puzzle feels difficult, pause and revisit it later.

Dementia Effects on Gameplay
The game mirrors dementia by altering perception as you continue your journey. Your perception of reality becomes increasingly distorted, reflecting the illness’s impact.
These effects are automatic and encourage you to balance thorough exploration with forward movement, using the journal as a grounding tool when reality feels fragmented.
- Watch for changes in environment; they signal when perception is shifting.
- Use the journal as a reference point when distortion intensifies.
