About Divekick
Divekick strips fighting games to their core by using only two buttons—Dive and Kick—while keeping the genre’s essential mind games, spacing, timing and reaction challenges. A round ends on the first hit, and the first player to win five rounds takes the match.
The title offers at least fourteen unique characters, including two extra guest fighters, each with an intro, rival battles and an ending. It runs on Windows via Steam and includes full controller support, achievements, leaderboards, Steam Cloud and Remote Play features.
01 / THE GUIDE
Two‑Button Gameplay
Divekick limits input to Dive, which makes the character jump straight up, and Kick, which sends the character foot‑first downwards. Pressing Kick on the ground also lets the character jump away, creating a simple yet tactical movement space.
A round finishes when the first hit connects, and a match ends when a player reaches five round victories. This design foregrounds mind games, spacing, timing and rapid reactions without requiring complex input strings.
- Experiment with the timing between Dive and Kick to see how it changes the opponent’s reaction window.
- Watch how ground‑Kick moves affect the distance you can create before the next Dive.

Characters and Guest Fighters
The game includes at least fourteen unique characters, each with its own fighting style and special techniques, among them the guest fighters Fencer from Nidhogg and Johnny Gat from Saints Row.
Every fighter is paired with a personal story that features an introductory cutscene, a series of rival battles and a concluding ending, giving narrative context to each combatant.
- Try each character’s special techniques to discover a style that matches your preferred timing.
- Play the guest characters to experience a different tactical approach within the same two‑button system.

Single‑Player Story Mode
A story mode exists for every character, presenting an intro, a sequence of rival battles and an ending. The mode can be accessed without another human opponent, allowing solo exploration of each fighter’s narrative.
The stories are described as emotionally engaging, with the developer noting they may move players to tears, highlighting the narrative focus alongside the minimalist combat.
- Play multiple characters to compare how each story’s pacing and difficulty differ.
- Focus on rival battles to learn each fighter’s strengths before trying the next character.

Ranked and Non‑Ranked Online Play
Divekick supports GGPO‑powered online multiplayer with both ranked and non‑ranked match types. Leaderboards track rankings per character as well as overall performance, providing a competitive framework.
The netcode is described as the most trusted in fighting games, offering a stable environment for players who wish to test their timing and mind games against others.
- Start with non‑ranked matches to become comfortable with the timing before entering ranked ladders.
- Check the character‑specific leaderboard to see how you compare with others using the same fighter.
