About Dig or Die
In Dig or Die you crash‑land on a hostile planet and must use your company’s fabrication tools to survive. The core loop blends fast digging, resource gathering, and strategic base construction to fend off nightly monster waves. Physics, water cycles, and a global simulation shape every decision, from wall placement to power generation.
The game offers classic solo play, co‑op, and several custom modes such as Under the Sea, Sky World, and Base Defense. Creative Mode lets you produce any item for free, while the ultimate goal remains building a rocket to escape the world you’ve engineered.
01 / THE GUIDE
Night‑time Survival Strategy
Each night the planet unleashes massive monster attacks. To survive you must erect strong walls and position turrets wisely, turning your base into a defensive fortress. The monsters intelligently find paths to your defenses and can destroy walls, so placement and reinforcement matter.
Progression is tied to the species you have already defeated; only those monsters appear in later attacks. This lets you control difficulty by choosing when to advance and face stronger foes.
- Observe monster paths before upgrading walls.
- Balance turret count with wall strength for efficient defense.

Physics‑Based Construction
Structures obey realistic physics: build them poorly and they may collapse under their own weight or external forces. Bridges and high towers are essential for reaching remote areas, but they must be supported correctly to stay intact.
The fast digging mechanic lets you focus on planning and testing designs rather than grinding, while infinite inventory ensures you can experiment without resource caps.
- Test small sections before extending large towers.
- Use supports to prevent collapse on steep terrain.

Water Cycle and Hazardous Events
Rain, infiltration, underground rivers and lakes create a dynamic water cycle. Heavy rains can raise water levels suddenly, flooding areas and threatening your base. Activating Hazardous Events adds surprises like Meteor Showers, Earthquakes, Volcano Eruptions, and Sharkstorms.
Planning drainage, elevated foundations, and flood‑resistant walls helps mitigate these environmental threats, turning them into manageable challenges rather than game‑ending disasters.
- Elevate critical structures above flood lines.
- Prepare drainage channels before heavy rain periods.

Game Modes and Creative Play
Beyond the classic solo experience, Dig or Die supports multiplayer co‑op and several custom modes. Under the Sea drops you into a cave beneath a vast ocean, Sky World scatters you across floating islands, and Base Defense focuses solely on fortification without exploration.
Creative Mode removes resource constraints, allowing you to produce any item for free, modify terrain, and even generate water or lava, making it ideal for testing designs or simply enjoying unrestricted building.
- Use Creative Mode to prototype defenses before applying them in survival.
- Try Sky World for practice with vertical building techniques.

World Simulation and Power Generation
The planet features a real‑time simulation of physics, lighting, and a water cycle, plus a living plant system that grows when conditions are met. Power can be generated via solar panels or functional hydroelectric generators, enabling advanced machines and defenses.
Farming becomes viable with artificial sun lamps and irrigation, linking agriculture to your energy infrastructure and expanding the base’s self‑sufficiency.
- Combine solar and hydro power for reliable energy supply.
- Place farms near water sources and provide artificial light.
