About Deviation Game
Deviation Game is a co‑op party experience for 2‑6 players where humans draw secret prompts while an image‑recognition AI tries to guess them. Players win by tricking the AI and still communicating the idea to their teammates. The game runs on a single copy; additional participants join via their smartphones acting as controllers.
The title frames AI as a creative partner, encouraging players to explore how AI perceives visual concepts. After each round, players may opt‑in or out of sharing their drawings for future model training, keeping consent transparent while gathering data on AI blind spots.
01 / THE GUIDE
Joining the Game
One player launches the Steam version on Windows, macOS, or Linux. Others scan the QR code or enter a room code at outdraw.ai, turning their mobile browsers into controllers. Up to six participants can connect without needing extra copies of the game.
The host’s screen is shared, allowing all players to see the drawing canvas and AI guesses. No additional hardware beyond a smartphone and internet connection is required.
- Use a stable Wi‑Fi network to reduce latency between the host screen and mobile controllers.
- If a player cannot scan the QR code, manually typing the room code works equally well.

Choosing and Drawing Prompts
The designated drawer selects a secret prompt from categories like objects, actions, or concepts. The prompt remains hidden from other humans and the AI until the drawing is submitted.
The drawer then sketches the prompt, aiming to make the image understandable to teammates while confusing the AI’s perception. Only one drawing attempt is allowed per round.
- Focus on distinctive features that humans recognize quickly, such as exaggerated shapes or familiar silhouettes.
- Avoid overly abstract strokes that might obscure the idea for both humans and the AI.

How the AI Guesses
After the drawing is submitted, the AI generates a set of guesses equal to the number of human players. If any AI guess matches the secret prompt, the AI wins the round.
The AI does not receive the prompt text; it only analyses the visual input. It may receive example prompts for context, but each guess is produced independently.
- Observe patterns in AI guesses across rounds to anticipate its blind spots.
- Encourage teammates to think of alternative wording that the AI might overlook.

Consent and Drawing Data
At the end of each game, players can choose whether their drawings may be used to train future AI models. Opt‑out is the default setting, and any data without explicit consent is deleted.
Collected drawings help expose cultural biases in large AI models, but only when players give permission.
- Review the consent screen carefully before confirming to ensure you understand how your artwork may be used.
- If privacy is a concern, keep the opt‑out setting enabled for every session.

Supported Platforms and Multiplayer
Deviation Game runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux via Steam and supports family sharing, allowing a single purchase to be used by multiple household accounts. The game includes mouse‑only control and custom volume settings.
Multiplayer is split‑screen/co‑op, with up to six participants sharing a single screen while each uses a mobile device as a controller.
- Enable the mouse‑only option if you prefer traditional PC input over the mobile controller.
- Adjust volume controls before starting to avoid audio distractions during fast rounds.
