About Deathsmiles
Deathsmiles is a horizontally scrolling bullet‑hell shoot‑'em‑up from CAVE where players control one of five angels to protect the magical land of Gilverado from a Hell invasion. The game blends gothic‑horror visuals with frantic enemy patterns, including ghosts, demons, man‑eating plants, and even giant cattle.
Players can tackle six distinct game modes, ranging from standard runs to the challenging Mega Black Label, and may play solo or with a friend via local co‑op. A nonlinear stage selection and a powerful Counter system add depth to the high‑octane action.
01 / THE GUIDE
Playable Angels and Familiar Companions
Five angels are available, each paired with a faithful familiar that accompanies the player through the bullet‑hell chaos. Selecting an angel determines the visual style and familiar but does not alter core mechanics.
All angels share the same fundamental shooting and dodging controls, allowing players to focus on pattern recognition and positioning rather than character‑specific abilities.
- Try each angel to find a familiar design you enjoy, as it does not affect gameplay balance.
- Stick with one angel to build muscle memory for enemy patterns.

Six Game Modes Including Mega Black Label
Deathsmiles offers six different game modes, providing varied difficulty and stage arrangements. The Mega Black Label mode is highlighted as a particularly tough option.
Modes are accessed from the main menu and can be selected independently, allowing players to experiment with different stage orders and challenges.
- Start with the standard mode to learn patterns before attempting Mega Black Label.
- Mix and match modes to experience the nonlinear stage progression.

Local Co‑op and Multiplayer Features
The title supports two‑player local cooperative play, letting a friend join on the same screen. Shared/split‑screen is used for this experience.
Multiplayer is also compatible with Steam Remote Play Together, enabling online co‑op without requiring both players to own the game.
- Coordinate with your partner to cover different screen areas during intense bullet patterns.
- Use Remote Play Together if you cannot sit side‑by‑side.

Nonlinear Progression and Counter System
Stages can be chosen in a non‑linear order, giving players freedom to tackle preferred sections first. The Counter system rewards skilled play with powerful effects.
Progression is not locked to a single path, so players may revisit stages to improve scores or experiment with different difficulty settings.
- Use the Counter system after mastering a stage to boost your score.
- Revisit earlier stages after unlocking higher difficulty for fresh challenges.
