About Death Squared
Death Squared is a cooperative puzzle title that can be played solo or with up to four participants. Each player guides a colour‑coded robot toward a matching goal while avoiding traps, demanding observation and communication.
The game offers an 80‑level story campaign, a four‑player Party mode with 40 levels, and a Vault containing 45 extra challenges. It runs on Windows and macOS and supports both keyboard and full controller input, plus Steam’s Remote Play Together.

Core Gameplay
Every level tasks each player with moving a robot to a goal that shares its colour. The paths are littered with deadly traps, so success relies on careful planning and simultaneous use of both brain hemispheres, as the description notes.
The designers describe each level as a micro‑journey of surprise, discovery, mastery and success. This structure encourages players to experiment, learn from failures, and ultimately coordinate precise moves to survive.
- Watch the whole board before any robot moves to spot hidden hazards.
- Speak each intended move aloud to reduce accidental deaths.

Game Modes
The main campaign provides 80 story levels that introduce the core mechanics. After completing them, players can try the four‑player Party mode, which adds 40 levels designed for larger groups.
Beyond the main content, the Vault holds 45 extra experiments that are harder than the story levels. In 2025 an Extra Vault added 42 new two‑player levels, expanding the cooperative options.
- Begin with the story campaign to learn the basics before tackling Vault puzzles.
- Use the four‑player Party mode to practice coordination with more teammates.

Multiplayer Options
Death Squared supports local co‑op for up to four players, sharing the same screen or using split‑screen. This makes it easy for families or friends in the same room to play together.
Online play is possible through Steam’s Remote Play Together, which lets a host share their session so distant friends can join without each owning a copy.
- If you cannot meet in person, start a Remote Play Together session to keep the local experience intact.
- Arrange seating so each player can see their robot’s area clearly in split‑screen.

Audio and Story
Full voice acting is provided by Ricepirate Mick, delivering a humorous narrative that runs across the 80 story levels. The voice work adds personality to the experimental setting.
Characters such as Dave appear in the dialogue, giving the puzzles a light‑hearted context and helping players track progress through the experiments.
- Listen to the voice lines; occasional jokes may hint at upcoming mechanics.
- Enjoy the humor to keep sessions relaxed during difficult puzzles.
