About Dawn of Man
Dawn of Man puts you in charge of an early human settlement, guiding a small tribe from the Stone Age through to the Iron Age. Over more than 10,000 years you must keep your people alive, expand their homes, and develop technologies while coping with seasonal changes and hostile wildlife.
The game blends survival and city‑building, requiring you to hunt, gather, craft tools, and construct fortifications. As you research new techniques you can build massive stone structures, farm, and domesticate animals, all while defending against raiders and harsh winters.
01 / THE GUIDE
Gathering Resources
You collect fruit, berries, water, wood, flint, stone, and ores from the surrounding environment. These materials feed your people, enable tool creation, and support building projects. Seasonal abundance matters: fish are plentiful in spring, berries and fruit in summer, and animals are easier to hunt when it’s warm. Planning for winter means stockpiling non‑perishable food and warm clothing.
- Prioritize gathering during peak seasons to build a buffer for winter.
- Balance resource types to avoid shortages in food or building materials.

Hunting and Survival
Animals such as mammoths, woolly rhinos, ancient bison, megaloceros, and cave lions provide meat, skins, and bones. Meat feeds your tribe, while skins and bones become clothing and tools. Successful hunts are crucial for survival, especially before farming technologies are unlocked. Each species presents a distinct challenge that must be managed with appropriate weapons and tactics.
- Target easier prey during warm months to conserve energy.
- Use animal skins for clothing before winter to maintain morale.

Settlement Expansion
Building more homes and facilities lets your population grow. Fortifications and weapons become necessary as the settlement becomes larger and more attractive to raiders. Expansion also opens the possibility to construct megastructures, massive stone works that showcase engineering skill and provide strategic advantages.
- Expand housing gradually to match food production capacity.
- Add defensive structures before raider attacks increase.

Technology Research
Each new discovery eases support for larger populations but also raises food demand, morale concerns, and raider frequency. Research unlocks farming, animal domestication, and advanced building techniques. Balancing the benefits of new tech against its new challenges is essential for long‑term stability.
- Research farming early to secure a steady food supply.
- Monitor morale after major tech upgrades to prevent unrest.
05 / THE GUIDE
Megalithic Construction
Your ancestors can mine massive rocks, transport them with sledges, and erect colossal stone structures. These megastructures serve as cultural landmarks and can improve settlement prestige. Construction requires large quantities of stone and coordinated labor, making it a late‑game endeavor after sufficient resources and technology are secured.
- Accumulate stone reserves before starting a megastructure.
- Assign extra workers to stone transport to speed up building.
