About D&D Lords of Waterdeep
Lords of Waterdeep is a turn‑based strategy board game set in the City of Splendors, where each player assumes the role of a masked Lord. Lords recruit adventurers, complete quests, and expand the city by buying buildings, all to gain influence and points.
The digital edition supports play against AI opponents and up to five human opponents via asynchronous or real‑time cross‑platform multiplayer. Online features include player statistics, friend invitations, a tutorial, and optional music, SFX, and animation speed controls.
01 / THE GUIDE
Objective and Scoring
Each Lord aims to finish the eight‑round game with the highest point total. Points are earned from completed quests, playing Intrigue cards, constructing buildings, and from opponents using the player’s buildings.
After the eighth round, bonus points are added according to the game rules, and the Lord with the greatest final score is declared the winner.
- Balance quest completion with building construction to diversify point sources.
- Watch which of your buildings opponents use, as that can add to your score.

Turn Structure and Agents
The game proceeds through eight rounds, and in each round every player takes a turn assigning agents. Agents may be sent to taverns to recruit adventurers, to the market to purchase buildings, or to other locations for specific actions.
Agents are the only means to perform actions each turn, so planning their placement before a round begins helps avoid wasted turns and supports steady point accumulation.
- Sketch a quick plan for each agent before the round starts.
- Mix recruiting and building actions to keep both point streams active.

Buildings and City Expansion
Resources earned from quests can be spent to purchase buildings, which expand the city and open new opportunities for the owner. Each building provides benefits such as extra actions or points when the owner or another Lord uses it.
Because opponents can also gain resources from using a player’s buildings, each purchase creates both a personal advantage and a potential source of indirect competition.
- Prioritise buildings that grant actions you frequently need.
- Observe which buildings opponents favour and consider complementary purchases.

Intrigue Cards
Intrigue cards are drawn and may be played during a turn to help the holder or to hinder other Lords. Their effects can alter the flow of the game by accelerating personal plans or disrupting opponents.
Since Intrigue cards can affect any player, timing their use is a strategic decision that can shift the balance of points in a round.
- Reserve disruptive Intrigue cards for moments when an opponent is close to a high‑value quest.
- Combine Intrigue effects with building bonuses for compounded impact.

Online Multiplayer Features
The digital version offers both asynchronous and real‑time cross‑platform multiplayer for 2‑5 players, with AI opponents available as well. Players can invite Playdek friends, keep public or private profile statistics, and see each other’s online status.
Match data such as player ratings, profile statistics, and a “Next game” button for consecutive asynchronous play are tracked within the game’s online system.
- Use asynchronous mode to play at your own pace while still competing with friends.
- Check the online status indicator to know when opponents are ready for real‑time matches.
