About CS2D

CS2D is a free top‑down multiplayer shooter for Windows and Linux. Players join two teams and compete in fast‑paced matches that include classic bomb, hostage and VIP objectives as well as deathmatch, capture‑the‑flag, construction and zombie modes. The game offers a large weapon pool, special armors and a built‑in map editor, and it supports online, LAN and bot play without any cost or micro‑transactions.

01 / THE GUIDE

Game Modes

CS2D provides several mission types such as bomb planting, hostage rescue, V.I.P. assassination, capture the flag, construction, zombies, deathmatch and team deathmatch, letting teams pursue distinct win conditions in each match.

These modes can be played online, over LAN or against Lua‑scripted bots, giving players flexibility to enjoy competitive or solo experiences without needing external servers.

  • Try a classic mode first to learn team objectives before jumping into free‑for‑all deathmatch.
  • Use LAN play for low‑latency practice with friends.

02 / THE GUIDE

Weapon Arsenal

Players have access to pistols, shotguns, rifles, sniper rifles, SMGs, grenades and many other weapons, plus unconventional items such as portal guns, lasers, RPGs, flamethrowers and over 70 total items.

Special melee tools like machetes, wrenches, claws and chainsaws complement ranged firepower, while grenades include flare, molotov, gas and snowball variants.

  • Experiment with portal guns for unexpected movement tactics.
  • Carry a melee weapon for close‑quarters encounters when ammo runs low.

Map Editor & Lua Scripting

CS2D includes a WYSIWYG map editor with an entity/trigger system, allowing users to create custom maps within seconds and share them with the community.

Lua scripts can modify game behavior, add new items, or implement custom game modes, and the console supports buy scripts for quick equipment selection.

  • Start with the editor’s templates to learn entity placement.
  • Use simple Lua scripts to test new weapon spawns before full mod releases.

Platform Support & Multiplayer Options

The game runs on Windows and Linux clients and offers a headless dedicated server for stable online matches, supporting cross‑platform multiplayer between these operating systems.

Multiplayer can be online, LAN, co‑op or PvP, and the community maintains active servers with many custom maps and scripts.

  • Host a dedicated server on Linux for reliable uptime.
  • Join community servers to experience a variety of custom maps.

05 / THE GUIDE

Special Items & Armor

Beyond standard weapons, CS2D features tactical shields, medic and stealth armors, medikits, bandages, money items, and mines such as anti‑personnel and laser mines for strategic play.

These items provide health recovery, monetary gain, or area denial, expanding tactical options beyond pure shooting.

  • Collect money items to afford better equipment in buy scripts.
  • Deploy mines in choke points to control enemy movement.
