About Counter Agents
Counter Agents is a spy‑themed, head‑to‑head multiplayer game where players sneak past guards, steal a briefcase, and race to an exit. The game also offers solo challenges and a simple level editor for custom maps.
Developed from a 2015 student prototype and inspired by the 1981 stealth title 005, Counter Agents features a top‑down view of 3‑floor 3D levels, original music, and will launch on Steam for free with no DLC or in‑game purchases.

Game Modes
Three distinct modes are available: Single Player Challenge, Multiplayer for 1‑4 players, and a Level Editor. Each mode shares the core goal of locating a briefcase, avoiding guards or opponents, and escaping.
Multiplayer supports both local split‑screen and online play, letting friends compete directly. The single‑player challenges provide AI‑controlled obstacles for solo practice.
- Try the Single Player Challenge first to learn guard patterns before jumping into multiplayer.
- Experiment with split‑screen to see how the shared view influences strategy.

Level Editor
The editor uses a drag‑and‑drop UI, allowing anyone to build complex 3‑floor designs without programming. Created maps can be uploaded to the online community for others to play and rate.
This tool encourages creative level design and extends replayability, as players can continually share new challenges.
- Start with simple layouts to test guard sightlines before adding more floors.
- Rate community maps to discover well‑balanced designs.

Multiplayer Objective
In multiplayer, each team or solo player must locate the briefcase, evade guards, detectives, and opposing players, then reach an exit point. Success depends on stealth and timing.
The shared goal creates tension, as players must balance aggression with caution while navigating three floors.
- Coordinate with teammates to cover multiple floors simultaneously.
- Watch opponent movements to anticipate their escape routes.

Top‑Down 3D View
Counter Agents presents a top‑down perspective of a fully 3D environment, giving clear sight of all three floors. This view aids strategic planning and spatial awareness.
The angle allows players to spot guard positions and plan routes, essential for both solo and multiplayer encounters.
- Use the overhead view to map guard patrol routes before moving.
- Keep the overhead view in mind when navigating between floors to maintain orientation.
