About Cosmodread
Cosmodread places you inside a dying spaceship where every corridor hides horror. You must explore, survive, and ultimately find a way back to Earth, while the VR headset creates a tense, immersive atmosphere.
Each playthrough generates a new layout of rooms, corridors, items and hazards, so you never know what lies behind the next door. Hand‑based interaction and scarce resources shape every decision.
01 / THE GUIDE
Exploration
Every run presents a fresh arrangement of rooms, corridors, items and hazards. This forces you to search each compartment for resources and clues, because the location of anything is never fixed.
The procedural layout creates emergent situations that differ each session, meaning you cannot rely on memorised routes and must stay alert to new threats behind each door.
- Pause briefly at each doorway to gauge the immediate environment before entering.
- Note the general distribution of lockers and drawers across runs to improve your scanning efficiency.
02 / THE GUIDE
Survival Mechanics
You use your own hands, via tracked controllers, to open doors, drawers and lockers and rummage through their contents. Collected materials can be turned into weapons and equipment needed for later challenges.
Resources are limited, so you must decide when to keep ammo for combat and when to improvise with found objects, balancing immediate safety against future needs.
- Gather a variety of materials early to broaden your crafting options.
- Consider using non‑weapon objects as distractions when ammo is low.

03 / THE GUIDE
Combat
When enemies appear you can crouch behind cover and fire a crossbow, or set traps that lure them into danger. Each shot consumes scarce ammo, encouraging careful aim.
Throwing objects from shelves provides a way to distract creatures without expending ammunition, giving you extra time to reposition or escape.
- Use cover to limit the number of shots you need to fire.
- Experiment with different thrown objects to see which most reliably distract enemies.
04 / THE GUIDE
Procedural Generation
The ship’s interior is reshuffled each session, randomising room positions, corridor connections and hazard locations. This design prevents memorisation from providing an advantage.
Because layouts differ each time, you must adapt on the fly, treating every run as a new puzzle rather than a repeat of a known map.
- Approach each run as a fresh challenge; avoid relying on previous map knowledge.
- Observe recurring hazard types to anticipate threats in new layouts.
05 / THE GUIDE
VR Interaction
Cosmodread is VR‑only and supports tracked controllers, allowing you to physically reach, grab and manipulate objects in the ship. This hand‑based approach makes opening doors and retrieving items feel tangible.
The game also lists Steam Cloud and Family Sharing among its official features.
- Spend a short session practicing controller gestures to reduce fumbling during tense moments.
- Familiarise yourself with the hand motions for opening containers before a full run.
