About Combat Mission Black Sea
Combat Mission Black Sea is a military‑grade simulation that recreates a fictional 2017 escalation between Russian and Ukrainian forces, later drawing NATO rapid‑deployment units into the conflict. The game focuses on near‑peer tactical warfare at battalion and below scale, presenting a realistic modern battlefield.
Players command highly researched American, Ukrainian and Russian units—ranging from mech infantry to armored brigades—while dealing with realistic physics, ballistics, weather effects and soft factors such as morale, experience and leadership. Four campaigns, 22 scenarios and Quick Battle maps support both single‑player and head‑to‑head play.

Detailed Unit Types
The title screen lists American, Ukrainian and Russian units drawn from common brigade types, including mech infantry, motor rifle, Stryker and armored formations. Each unit carries modern capabilities such as active protection systems and UAV support, as described in the highlights.
These units operate under a simulation of morale, experience and leadership, which influence combat performance. The variety lets players experiment with different force compositions against a numerically and technologically superior opponent.
- Compare APS survivability across unit types.
- Observe UAV spotting ranges when testing formations.

Real‑Time and WeGo Play
Combat Mission Black Sea offers a hybrid system that lets players choose between continuous real‑time battles or WeGo, a turn‑based mode where time advances in increments. This choice accommodates different tactical preferences while keeping core mechanics intact.
Both modes retain the same physics, ballistics, fog‑of‑war and line‑of‑sight systems, ensuring consistent simulation regardless of pacing. Players may select the mode for campaigns, scenarios or Quick Battles.
- Use WeGo to plan complex maneuvers before committing.
- Try real‑time for faster engagements once familiar with the map.

Weather and Lighting Impact
The simulation includes a wide range of weather and lighting conditions, each affecting unit performance. A wide range of weather and lighting conditions realistically impact fighting abilities, including visibility and spotting.
These environmental factors interact with line‑of‑sight and command‑and‑control systems, requiring players to adapt tactics to the current battlefield ambience.
- Test night‑time engagements to see how spotting changes.
- Experiment with rain to gauge its effect on artillery precision.

Map and Scenario Editor
A full‑featured editor lets players create custom maps, scenarios and entire campaigns. The toolset supports custom maps, scenarios and campaigns built on the game's tactical systems.
Quick Battle can also generate deliberate or randomized battles based on player specifications, providing endless replayability without needing external assets.
- Start with a small map to learn editor basics before scaling up.
- Use Quick Battle presets to test new scenarios quickly.

Multiplayer and PBEM
Combat Mission Black Sea supports head‑to‑head play through online PvP, LAN PvP and shared/split‑screen modes. Play‑by‑email (PBEM) offers a turn‑based asynchronous experience for those who prefer a slower pace.
These options let friends compete across various network configurations, while the underlying simulation of physics, ballistics and spotting remains in effect.
- Try PBEM for a relaxed, turn‑based duel with a distant friend.
- Use split‑screen for local tactical contests.
