About Chroma Zero
Chroma Zero invites players into a seamless, open world where every corner is a puzzle and the environment itself reacts to your actions. The game emphasizes curiosity, rewarding exploration and the knowledge you gather about the space’s hidden rules.
Designed as a non‑linear, “Metroidbrainia” experience, it blends light‑hearted narrative with increasingly challenging puzzles, all set to an original score. A solo developer crafted the title to offer a surprising first playthrough that can take six to twelve hours to complete, with extra time for full discovery.
01 / THE GUIDE
Knowledge Based Progression
Progress in Chroma Zero hinges on learning the world’s rules. As you explore and experiment, new information unlocks deeper areas and mysteries, making knowledge the primary gatekeeper.
The game guides you subtly, so thorough exploration reveals what you need to know, even if the exact method remains a mystery until you discover it.
- Take notes on environmental cues; they often hint at hidden mechanics.
- Re‑visit earlier locations after learning new rules; previously blocked paths may open.

Open‑world Puzzles
There are no discrete levels; the entire world functions as a continuous puzzle. Every area you enter contains challenges integrated into its design.
Because the world is open, you can approach puzzles in any order, letting curiosity dictate the path you take.
- Map out interesting landmarks; they often mark puzzle hotspots.
- Experiment with different approaches rather than searching for a single solution.

Extremely Dynamic Environment
The environment reacts dramatically to player actions, altering visuals and gameplay in real time. Small interactions can cause large, visible changes.
These reactions reinforce the game’s theme of balance and encourage careful experimentation.
- Observe before acting; the world’s response can hint at puzzle mechanics.
- Use the dynamic changes to track which actions have been successful.

Accessibility Options
Chroma Zero includes a Color Vision Deficiency overlay that marks points of interest, and Photosensitivity modes that adjust brightness and contrast for comfort.
The overlay can be positioned in any corner of the screen or in the center, allowing players to tailor visual feedback without altering core gameplay.
- Try the overlay in different corners to find the least obtrusive spot.
- Adjust the brightness offset if high‑contrast moments feel harsh.

Speedrun Timer
A repositionable timer tracks playtime, stopping during dialogue sequences and otherwise continuing until game‑over. Enabling it also speeds up the save‑file delete hold for quick restarts.
The timer supports community speedrunning, with Discord links for leaderboards and discussion.
- Enable the timer early to capture a full run without manual timing.
- Use the faster delete feature to test new strategies without long waits.
