About Children of Morta
Children of Morta is an action‑RPG that follows the Bergson family as they battle a spreading Corruption. The game blends hack‑and‑slash combat with rogue‑lite elements, letting you switch among seven family members whose abilities grow together.
All dungeons are procedurally generated and can be tackled solo or with a partner via local or online co‑op. The story explores themes of love, hope, loss and sacrifice while the pixel‑art world is lit with modern effects.
01 / THE GUIDE
Family Characters & Skills
Seven members of the Bergson family are playable, each with a distinct combat role such as sword‑and‑shield, archery, daggers, fire magic, martial arts, sledgehammer and healing. Their skill sets include ranged attacks, magic spells, blocks, stuns, healing, evasions and passive abilities, all of which can be unlocked and upgraded.
Switching characters between dungeon runs is allowed, and leveling up improves both the individual hero and the overall family progression. This shared growth means upgrades to one member can benefit the whole clan’s strength.
- Focus on unlocking a mix of offensive and defensive skills early to handle varied enemy types.
- Swap to a healer when the party’s health is low to avoid unnecessary damage.

Procedurally Generated Dungeons
Each adventure takes place in a dungeon whose layout is generated anew, offering two to four levels per run. The random design ensures that the path, enemy placement and loot differ each time you enter.
At the end of every dungeon a unique boss fight awaits, and players may revisit previous dungeons for extra experience or to complete side quests that were missed on the first attempt.
- Explore every room on early runs to discover hidden side quests.
- Save progress before a boss to retry without losing overall dungeon progress.

Local and Online Co‑op
Children of Morta supports both local split‑screen and online co‑op for two players. Co‑op can be used in Story mode as well as in Family Trials, letting friends tackle the Corruption together.
The online feature was added as a free update after the development roadmap concluded, and it works across all game modes, providing the same character options and mechanics as solo play.
- Coordinate character choices with a partner to cover complementary combat roles.
- Use the online co‑op to finish difficult bosses that require simultaneous attacks.

Family‑Wide Progression
Experience earned in dungeons contributes to both individual heroes and the overall family level. There is no permadeath, so characters persist between runs, allowing continuous development of skills and equipment.
Players may change which family member they control between runs, meaning the family’s collective growth can be directed toward preferred playstyles without resetting progress.
- Allocate skill points to passive abilities that benefit all members for a balanced boost.
- Prioritize upgrades that improve survivability when tackling higher‑level dungeons.

Hand‑Painted Pixel Art & Lighting
The visual presentation combines hand‑painted pixel sprites with frame‑by‑frame animation, creating a detailed aesthetic that feels both retro and modern. Dynamic lighting techniques are applied to enhance atmosphere in each area.
This art direction supports the game’s narrative tone, emphasizing the dangerous yet beautiful world the Bergsons must protect from Corruption.
- Adjust display settings to maximize contrast for clearer visibility of enemy projectiles.
- Take moments to appreciate background details; they often hint at hidden secrets.
