About Chess Sudoku
Chess Sudoku, created by Cracking The Cryptic and developed by Studio Goya, blends classic Sudoku with chess‑move constraints. Players solve 40 initial puzzles that follow standard Sudoku rules plus extra restrictions based on knight, king or queen moves. The game is single‑player, supports family sharing, and runs on Windows and macOS.
01 / THE GUIDE
Puzzle Types
Three variants are offered: Knight Sudoku, King Sudoku and, after launch, Queen Sudoku. Each keeps the usual row, column and 3×3 box limits, then adds a chess‑specific rule for the same digit.
Knight Sudoku forbids a digit from appearing a knight’s move away from itself; King Sudoku blocks a single diagonal adjacency; Queen Sudoku treats every 9 as a queen, preventing any other 9 from sharing its row, column, box or diagonal.
- Compare the extra rule with the standard Sudoku layout to spot forced placements early.
- When a digit is limited by a chess move, check all eight possible knight positions (or four king diagonals) for conflicts.

Hint System
All puzzles are hand‑crafted by Simon Anthony and Mark Goodliffe, who also write the hints. This ensures each clue is purposeful and aligned with the puzzle’s difficulty.
The hints are designed to teach solvers better techniques, reflecting the creators’ educational focus on their YouTube channel.
- Read each hint fully; they often point to the specific chess‑move restriction in play.
- Use hints as a learning tool to recognize patterns that recur across different variants.

Star Progression
Players begin with zero stars and earn stars by solving puzzles. Accumulating stars unlocks additional puzzles, encouraging continued play.
The difficulty curve spans from easy to extreme, providing a steady flow of challenges as the star count grows.
- Focus on completing easier puzzles first to build a star reserve for tougher levels.
- Track your star total to gauge when new puzzle sets become available.

Updates and Variants
The base release includes 40 Knight and King puzzles. A free update adds Queen Sudoku puzzles, expanding the catalogue.
Frequent updates are promised, delivering new puzzles over time and keeping the experience fresh.
- Check for updates regularly to access the Queen variant and any new puzzle packs.
- Compare new puzzles with earlier ones to notice how the creators evolve the chess‑move constraints.
