About CATO: Buttered Cat

CATO: Buttered Cat is a puzzle‑platformer where you control a cat that runs, climbs and slips through pipes, while a buttered toast can be powered up to jump farther as a projectile. Combining the two triggers a paradox that moves the cat to otherwise unreachable spots.

The adventure spans five worlds with over 140 main levels, more than 60 side levels, hidden rooms, boss battles and mini‑games that can be installed in a personal hideout. The game supports single‑player, co‑op, split‑screen and a range of input options on Windows, macOS and Linux.

01 / THE GUIDE

Core Mechanics

The cat moves left‑right, climbs surfaces and slips through pipes. The toast jumps like a projectile, and holding down the power button makes its jump travel farther.

When the cat and toast combine, they trigger the paradox, allowing the cat to reach places that are otherwise inaccessible and to solve puzzles that require both movement types.

  • Observe the toast’s jump arc before committing to a paradox.
  • Experiment with different power‑hold lengths to see how far the toast can travel.

Level Structure

The game offers over 140 main levels and more than 60 side levels across five worlds, each filled with unique contraptions such as buttered trampolines and space pipes.

Secret passages lead to hidden rooms that contain Easter eggs and drop items; boss battles and mini‑games appear at various points to add variety.

  • Look for subtle visual cues that may indicate a secret passage.
  • Take note of enemy placement early to plan a safe route.

The full version includes an outfit system with more than 70 skins for both the cat and the toast, which can be collected throughout the adventure.

Skins are applied in the player’s hideout, allowing visual customization of the characters.

  • Check hidden rooms for additional skins.
  • Change into your favourite outfits at the hideout before setting off again.

Mini‑Games and Hideout

Progress unlocks mini‑games that can be installed in a personal hideout, where they are accessible at any time.

The hideout also stores items found in hidden rooms, giving a central place to keep collected treasures.

  • Install newly unlocked mini‑games promptly to explore them early.
  • Organize collected items in the hideout for easy reference.

05 / THE GUIDE

Multiplayer & Co‑op

CATO: Buttered Cat supports single‑player, multiplayer, co‑op and shared/split‑screen modes, with full controller support and a keyboard‑only option.

Remote Play Together lets friends join online, and split‑screen lets two players control cat and toast simultaneously for coordinated puzzle solving.

  • Communicate timing for paradox activation when playing co‑op.
  • Use split‑screen to keep both characters in view.
