Story and Setting
The narrative follows a cat privateer on a quest for the Northern Star, a mythical treasure hidden somewhere in the Purribean. The archipelago is populated by Pi-rats and a quirky cast of characters who offer quests that can be taken in any order.
Exploration is non-linear; players may investigate dungeons, biomes, and secret locations at their own pace while gathering clues about the Northern Star. The pirate theme runs through the world's islands, enemy designs, and treasure-hunting focus.
- Say ahoy to the quirky cast of characters to pick up quests you can tackle in any order.
- Explore the deepest corners of the Purribean at your leisure rather than rushing the main hunt.

Combat System
Combat features tighter attack combos and the ability to swap weapons on the fly, letting players chain attacks against the Pi-rat hordes hunting them under the Pirate King's orders. New weapons such as the blunderpuss add variety to engagements.
Spells and costumes also play a role, offering additional ways to damage enemies or change up your style across the archipelago's varied encounters.
- Try swapping weapons mid-fight to find which loadout suits each encounter best.
- Pair furr-ocious spells with weapon attacks to vary your approach to battles.

Ship Exploration
For the first time in the series, players command their own ship to travel between islands in the Purribean. The ship can zip seamlessly to shore, allowing a smooth transition from sea travel to on-paw exploration.
Sailing opens up treasure hunting across the waters as well as the land, expanding exploration beyond dungeons and letting you hunt booty throughout the pirate world.
- Use the ship to reach islands at your own pace and hunt for treasures galore.
- Remember you can seamlessly zip to shore whenever an island catches your eye.

Co-op Play
Cat Quest III supports local co-op on a shared screen, letting two players experience the adventure together on the same device. The campaign can be played solo or in co-op, so partners can share the treasure hunt from start to finish.
Playing together means coordinating combat and ship travel as a team, which can make exploring the Purribean and its dungeons a shared experience rather than a solo one.
- Decide with your partner how you want to split roles in combat before diving into dungeons.
- Plan your sailing routes together so both players agree on which islands to visit next.
