About Castle of Blackwater
Castle of Blackwater is a fast‑paced social deduction game where up to ten strangers are trapped inside a dangerous, magical castle. Players join one of three factions—Protectors, Satanic, or Forgotten—and must balance cooperation, betrayal, and hidden agendas to survive.
The game mixes voice and text chat, unique character powers, and over twenty mini‑games while allowing eliminated players to return as ghosts that can collect souls for team power‑ups. It is free‑to‑play on Windows and macOS and supports online multiplayer and co‑op play.
01 / THE GUIDE
Factions
Three factions shape the hidden‑role gameplay: Protectors complete tasks and expose threats, Satanic sabotage and eliminate, while Forgotten can switch sides to create chaos. Victory belongs to the faction that outlasts the others.
Each faction has its own win condition, encouraging players to form alliances, betray, or manipulate others depending on their chosen side.
- Observe who consistently helps with tasks; they may be Protectors.
- Watch for players who switch allegiances often; they could be Forgotten.
02 / THE GUIDE
Proximity Voice & Text Chat
The game features proximity‑based voice and text chat, letting players scream, scheme, or whisper lies to nearby participants. Communication is integral to deception and cooperation.
Because chat range is limited, positioning influences who can hear you, adding a spatial layer to the social deduction.
- Move close to allies when you need to coordinate tasks.
- Use distance to hide your plans from opponents.

Unique Characters & Abilities
Ten distinct characters each grant a special ability, such as silencing players, transforming into a werewolf, or reading minds. These powers can shift the balance of discussion and investigation.
Abilities are used during play and can directly affect how information is shared or hidden among participants.
- Try abilities that limit others’ communication when you need to control the narrative.
- Use mind‑reading powers to verify suspicions about hidden roles.

Mini‑Games & Tasks
More than twenty mini‑games serve as tasks, ranging from ninja‑style veggie slicing to lumberjack tree chopping and a musical candle‑lighting memory challenge. Completing tasks advances the Protectors’ win condition.
Mini‑games provide both skill‑based challenges and opportunities for players to gather information about each other's performance.
- Focus on tasks that match your skill set to finish them quickly.
- Watch who struggles with tasks; they may be trying to avoid progress.
05 / THE GUIDE
Ghost Mechanics
When a player is eliminated, they become a ghost rather than leaving the match. Ghosts can collect souls, which can be spent on power‑ups that benefit their original team.
This post‑death role lets eliminated players continue influencing the outcome, adding a layer of persistent strategy.
- As a ghost, prioritize collecting souls near active players.
- Coordinate with living teammates to time power‑up usage effectively.
