About Cassette Beasts
Cassette Beasts is an open‑world RPG set on the remote island of New Wirral. Players record monsters onto cassette tapes, then play those tapes back to transform into the captured forms for turn‑based battles. The core loop revolves around exploring the island, collecting monster abilities, and using the Fusion System to merge any two recorded forms into a brand‑new, fully animated creature. Human companions accompany the player; completing their personal goals raises the relationship level, which directly influences the quality of fusions. The game offers both single‑player and multiplayer experiences, including local split‑screen co‑op and online modes for tape trading, 1v1 battles, and cooperative challenges against powerful Rogue Fusion beasts. Full controller support, Steam Cloud, and Remote Play Together let friends join the adventure on a variety of setups. Strategic depth comes from elemental chemistry in combat, a never‑ending Gauntlet mode, and the ability to use certain monster abilities while in human form to solve environmental puzzles such as gliding, climbing, swimming, dashing, or becoming magnetic. All of these systems interlock, encouraging players to experiment with fusions, nurture companion bonds, and explore every corner of New Wirral.
01 / THE GUIDE
Fusion System
When two monster forms have been recorded onto tapes, the Fusion System allows them to be merged into a single new form. The resulting creature features a distinct animation that did not exist before.
The strength of the fusion is linked to the closeness of the player’s relationship with their human companion; a stronger bond can improve the outcome.
- Experiment with monsters that have contrasting elemental tags to observe how the new form behaves.
- Raise companion bond levels before attempting major fusions to see if the result changes.

Open World Exploration
New Wirral is presented as a fully explorable island with varied terrain, hidden dungeons, and environmental puzzles.
While in human form, players can still use certain monster abilities—such as gliding, swimming, climbing, dashing, or becoming magnetic—to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.
- Record a monster with a climbing ability early to access high ledges.
- Keep a magnetic form handy for puzzles involving metal objects.

Battle Mechanics
Combat is turn‑based and incorporates elemental chemistry, letting players apply buffs, debuffs, or even alter an opponent’s elemental type during attacks.
The Gauntlet mode presents an endless series of enemy waves, rewarding players with material and glory for surviving longer.
- Plan elemental pairings before entering the Gauntlet to maximize damage.
- Watch how opponents react to elemental changes and adjust your strategy.

Multiplayer Modes
Local co‑op uses shared/split‑screen so two players can explore, transform, and fight together on the same device. Each player controls their own monster form.
Online multiplayer adds tape trading, 1v1 PvP battles, and cooperative challenges against Rogue Fusion beasts.
- Coordinate attacks and fusions with your co‑op partner to create synergistic battle flow.
- Trade tapes online to fill gaps in your monster collection.

Companion Relationships
Human companions have personal goals that players can help complete. Finishing these side objectives raises the relationship level between player and companion.
A higher relationship level directly influences fusion outcomes, making the bond a functional part of the battle and exploration systems.
- Prioritize companion side quests early to improve future fusions.
- Check relationship status regularly to gauge its impact on fusion quality.
