About Card Shark
Card Shark is an adventure‑simulation set in 18th‑century France where you climb the gambling hierarchy by learning cheating tricks such as card marking, false shuffles, deck switching and false deals. Success depends on applying these techniques without being caught by rivals.
The world was created by Nerial’s Arnaud De Bock and illustrated by Nicolai Troshinsky, offering ornate towns, mansions and high‑society lounges. An original orchestral score by Andrea Boccadoro accompanies the experience, and the game runs on Windows and macOS with full controller support and Steam features.

Deception Mechanics
The gameplay centers on learning a set of cheating methods—card marking, false shuffles, deck switching and false deals. Each method is introduced as a distinct mechanic that the player can practice and apply during gambling encounters.
Mastery of these methods influences the outcome of each hand. The game signals success or failure through visual feedback, encouraging the player to refine timing and observation to stay hidden from opponents.
- Watch the animation of a shuffle closely; subtle differences can indicate whether a false shuffle is in effect.
- Notice how the game highlights a marked card after a successful trick; this visual cue confirms the action worked.

Narrative Progression
Players begin in local card parlors and advance toward the King’s table, uncovering a conspiracy as they rise through French society. The story unfolds through encounters with scoundrels, rogues and other gamblers.
Each new location introduces higher‑risk tables and additional plot elements. Progress is tied to successful deception, so narrative milestones are reached by applying the learned tricks without being detected.
- Observe recurring characters; their dialogue often hints at deeper plot threads.
- When moving to a higher‑stakes venue, review the risk cues presented before committing to a hand.

Andrea Boccadoro’s original orchestral score adapts to gameplay moments, shifting tone to match the stakes of a hand or the revelation of a plot twist, enhancing immersion.
