About Brutal Orchestra

Brutal Orchestra is a turn‑based roguelike strategy game that blends resource management and deck‑building. After dying, you awaken in Purgatory and must strike a bargain with the demon Bosch to pursue a personal vendetta.

The world is a twisted version of Hieronymus Bosch’s paintings, populated by damaged fools, bizarre artifacts, and the strange substance called pigment, which fuels absurd abilities as you hunt for revenge through endless deserts, storm‑cloaked peaks, and a final Garden.

01 / THE GUIDE

Revenge Plot

You die, someone kills you, and you find yourself trapped in Purgatory with no escape. The only way forward is to make a deal with the demon Bosch and embark on a brutal quest for petty revenge. The narrative frames every encounter as a step toward that revenge, positioning the player’s actions within a dark, unforgiving setting.

  • Observe how each decision ties back to the revenge motive; it can guide your strategic choices.
  • Consider the tone of the story when selecting allies, as the world rewards thematic consistency.

Pigment System

Pigment is a strange substance that bleeds through Purgatory, granted to you by Bosch. Channeling pigment lets you perform powerful, absurd abilities, with each colour derived from different sources, sometimes even your own flesh. The system adds a layer of resource management, as different pigments enable distinct effects during turn‑based combat.

  • Experiment with various pigment colours to discover which abilities suit your playstyle.
  • Track pigment sources, since each colour comes from a different source, some even of your own flesh.

03 / THE GUIDE

Fools as Allies

Even in death, the realm is populated by poor fools eking out existence. Some can become valuable party members, while most are dim‑witted or damaged beyond reason. Recruiting fools adds unpredictable elements to your party, offering both utility and entertainment through their dialogue.

  • Test different fools early to gauge their usefulness before committing resources.
  • Enjoy the entertaining conversation as part of what these fools offer alongside their party value.

Treasure and Artifacts

Over 100 powerful artifacts are scattered throughout the game, dramatically shaping how you play. Many are drawn directly from Bosch’s artworks, providing unique effects that can alter strategies. Collecting these items is a core loop, encouraging exploration and risk‑taking in the harsh environment.

  • Prioritize artifacts that complement your chosen pigment abilities.
  • Map out artifact locations to plan efficient routes through hazardous zones.

05 / THE GUIDE

Hellish World Design

Purgatory is depicted as a writhing dump of all that has died across many worlds. It features endless deserts of pale sand stalked by parasitic fish, storm‑cloaked mountain tops hiding ungodly things, and a final Garden awaiting at the end of time. The varied locales create distinct challenges and visual storytelling that reinforce the game’s dark aesthetic.

  • Adapt your strategy to each environment; desert hazards differ from mountain threats.
  • Use the visual cues of each area to anticipate enemy types and terrain effects.
