About Broken Front
Broken Front is a platoon‑level World War II tactical wargame that translates a classic tabletop experience to the computer. Each unit represents a platoon of infantry, tanks, mortars or anti‑tank guns and battles play out on a hex grid with turn‑based decisions. The game emphasizes positioning, terrain, line of sight and timing over fast reflexes. Players can dig in, use smoke, call in indirect fire and manage reinforcements while adapting to unit conditions such as Disrupted, Reduced or Destroyed.
01 / THE GUIDE
Turn‑Based Tactical Combat
Combat proceeds in turns, allowing careful planning rather than rapid reactions. Each move considers unit type, positioning and the upcoming enemy action. The system mirrors board‑game rules, focusing on clear decisions and the consequences of each order rather than reflex‑based play.
- Take a moment to review enemy placement before committing your move.
- Consider how your action will affect the next enemy turn.

Terrain, Elevation, Cover and Line of Sight
Forests, towns, hills, rivers and bridges shape the battlefield, providing cover and influencing line of sight. Elevation can grant advantage or expose units. Using terrain wisely lets you obscure enemy vision, protect your forces, and set up effective fire positions.
- Place units on higher hexes to improve sight range.
- Use forests to hide infantry from direct fire.

Unit Conditions Instead of Health Bars
Units do not simply lose health; they transition through conditions such as Disrupted, Reduced and Destroyed. Each state changes how the unit can act and forces tactical adaptation. Monitoring these conditions helps you decide when to reinforce, withdraw or press an attack.
- Watch for Disrupted status to avoid losing a unit’s effectiveness.
- Plan reinforcements to replace Reduced units before they become Destroyed.

Multiple Skirmish Modes and Multiplayer
The game offers three skirmish modes—Meeting, Attack and Defend—each presenting a different tactical objective. Players can also engage in local multiplayer skirmishes. These modes let you practice varied strategies, from balanced engagements to focused assaults or defensive holds.
- Try the Defend mode to practice holding positions under pressure.
- Use local multiplayer to test tactics against a human opponent.
