About BRAVELY DEFAULT II
Bravely Default II adds a fresh world, Excillant, where the loss of elemental Crystals threatens the land. Four new Heroes of Light—Seth, Gloria, Adelle, and Elvis—set out to recover the Crystals and halt the looming calamity.
The game mixes classic turn‑based combat with the series‑defining Brave and Default system, letting players manage Brave Points to chain actions or stock them for later turns. Each hero can adopt primary and secondary jobs, mixing abilities for varied tactics.

Story and Setting
An ancient quatrain warns that the Crystals’ power, if unleashed, could bring disaster to Excillant. Guided by fate, the Heroes of Light must stop forces that threaten the world and its inhabitants.
Excillant’s history is tied to the Kingdom of Musa, once a guardian of harmony. The kingdom’s loss of its Crystals led to its downfall, prompting the protagonists to embark on a quest to retrieve them.
- Observe how each location references the Crystals to gauge narrative importance.
- Compare the tone of the opening quatrain with later dialogue for thematic clues.

Heroes of Light
Seth is a young sailor who drifts to Excillant and becomes the story’s main character. Gloria, an exiled princess of Musa, hides in despair before deciding to retrieve the lost Crystals.
Adelle works as a mercenary and serves as Elvis’s bodyguard, while Elvis is a scholar seeking a particular asterisk needed to unravel his master’s final spellbook.
- Note each hero’s background to anticipate their dialogue style.
- Consider how the scholar’s quest for an asterisk might intersect with combat encounters.

Brave and Default Mechanics
Each turn, characters have Brave Points (BP) that limit how many actions they can perform. Using ‘Default’ lets a character store up to three extra BP for future turns, while ‘Brave’ spends more than one BP to execute multiple actions now.
Balancing BP accumulation and expenditure is central to battle strategy, influencing whether you prioritize defense, offense, or a mix of both in any given encounter.
- Experiment with storing BP early to enable powerful combos later.
- Watch enemy patterns to decide when a Brave burst is most effective.

Jobs and Abilities
Every character can hold a primary and a secondary job, each offering distinct abilities. By combining jobs, a hero can wield two abilities at once, allowing for balanced offense‑defense builds or specialized magic users.
Changing jobs is tied to acquiring Asterisks, which drop from defeated “Asterisk bearers.” These items unlock new job options, expanding tactical possibilities.
- Mix a defensive primary job with an offensive secondary for flexibility.
- Track which Asterisk bearers drop specific job‑unlocking Asterisks.
