About Beyond These Stars
Beyond These Stars puts you in charge of a fledgling community perched on the back of Kewa, a massive sentient Space Whale that roams the galaxy. You begin on a small green patch by the water and must build homes, workplaces, and production lines while respecting the whale’s fragile ecosystem.
Traveling from system to system reveals alien species, hidden histories, and the chance to establish outposts on other worlds. Success depends on nurturing a symbiotic relationship with Kewa, managing logistics, and making sustainable choices that keep both your Peeps and their colossal host thriving.
01 / THE GUIDE
City Planning on a Living Whale
Your first settlement starts on a limited green area, so you must place buildings to follow Kewa’s contours. The game lets you reshape terrain, creating adjacency bonuses and shortening travel distances, but each change must be weighed against the whale’s delicate balance.
Dense construction can improve production chains, yet over‑building may shrink the habitable surface. The design challenge is to balance efficient layouts with the risk of reducing usable land, encouraging careful planning of each new structure.
- Compare building density with the amount of open space left for future expansion.
- Observe how terrain reshaping alters travel time between key structures.

Terraforming and Ecosystem Management
Terraforming tools let you dig canals, add topsoil, and plant trees to create farms and forests. These actions supply raw materials and help spread atmosphere, supporting a thriving ecosystem on Kewa’s back.
Because Kewa’s land is described as fragile, excessive alteration can shrink your habitat. Sustainable practices such as balanced canal digging and careful tree planting are essential to maintain a stable environment for both Peeps and the whale.
- Balance canal digging with re‑planting trees to keep atmospheric flow steady.
- Track how much topsoil you add versus how much land you lose.

Establishing Reliable Outposts
Kewa’s resources are plentiful but limited, prompting the creation of outposts on nearby planets for supplementary supplies. Outposts expand your resource pool, yet their longevity depends on the strength of your relationship with Kewa.
If the bond weakens, Kewa may leave a system, shortening the time you can rely on an outpost. Maintaining a strong connection therefore makes it easier to anticipate how long an outpost will remain available.
- Monitor the duration of outpost stays, which is harder to predict when your relationship with Kewa is weak.
- Prioritize actions that improve your relationship with Kewa before expanding far.
04 / THE GUIDE
Building a Symbiotic Relationship with Kewa
Kewa is portrayed as a sentient companion with its own hopes and desires. Understanding its needs allows you to collaborate on travel routes and decisions, shaping the journey across the universe together.
A strong bond makes outpost durations easier to predict and opens collaborative opportunities, letting you decide on a path together as you journey across the universe.
- Compare how different actions affect Kewa’s needs and desires over time.
- Note how improving the relationship shapes the path you and Kewa choose together.

Encountering Alien Species
During voyages you meet alien species that provide extra objectives, trade options, and new technologies. These encounters broaden your strategic choices and can impact city growth and resource acquisition.
Each species offers unique rewards, encouraging you to balance internal development with external diplomatic and trade opportunities as you explore the galaxy.
- Assess the technology gains from each alien encounter against the effort required.
- Track trade benefits to see which species provide the most useful resources.
