About Beat Invaders
Beat Invaders is a space‑themed vertical shoot‑'em‑up roguelite. Players select one of three pilots, each paired with a distinct ship class, and battle waves of enemies whose movement and firing follow the beat of a track.
The game features persistent upgrades, route modifiers, and multiple difficulty modes that feed into Steam leaderboards. It runs on Windows and Linux, offers full controller support, and includes a 33‑track electronic and vocal soundtrack that determines the tempo of each encounter.
01 / THE GUIDE
Pilots and Ship Classes
Three pilots are available, each linked to a unique ship class that defines the main weapon and base statistics. Choosing a pilot determines the starting configuration for the current run.
Ship classes become unlockable through upgrade points earned after runs, allowing players to experiment with different weapon types and statistical profiles as they tackle harder difficulties.
- Try each pilot early to see how base stats affect early enemy waves.
- Switch pilots after unlocking new classes to compare weapon impacts.

Upgrade System
During a run, upgrade points can be collected and spent to enhance ship systems and convoy gadgets. After the run, those points may be used to permanently improve subsystems or unlock new weapons.
All upgrades are resettable, letting players redistribute points to test alternative builds across ship classes and difficulty levels.
- Focus on a single upgrade path in one run to gauge its impact before resetting.
- Use the reset option to explore hybrid builds across multiple ship classes.

Route Effects
Route Effects act as run modifiers that can change the current run in interesting and challenging ways. Activating different effects adds strategic variety to each playthrough.
Players can combine Route Effects with upgrades to craft unique challenges and high‑score opportunities.
- Pair a high‑damage upgrade with a Route Effect for maximum score potential.
- Select effects that complement your ship class’s strengths, such as speed boosts for fast‑firing ships.

Game Modes and Leaderboards
Beat Invaders provides Easy, Normal, Hyper Mode, Speedrun, Lone Wolf, Weeklies and Dailies, each with its own Steam leaderboard. The modes differ in difficulty and time constraints.
Scores are compared globally and with friends via Steam Leaderboards, encouraging players to refine strategies for each specific challenge.
- Begin with Easy mode to learn enemy patterns before moving to Hyper Mode.
- Check the leaderboard after each mode to gauge how your score ranks.

Audio and Rhythm Influence
The 33‑track electronic and vocal soundtrack sets the tempo for enemy movements and firing rates. Each song’s beat dictates the speed of the current track and the timing of enemy actions.
Because gameplay speed follows the music, each round feels distinct to its selected track, creating a dynamic rhythm‑based challenge without being a rhythm game.
- Listen to a track’s tempo before a run to anticipate enemy pacing.
- Observe how each track's tempo shapes enemy pacing before committing to complex upgrade combos.
