About Bean and Nothingness

Bean and Nothingness is a turn‑based puzzle game where you combine colored beans to summon monsters. Each puzzle lists recipes that tell which bean colors create specific monsters, and you fire a magic wand on a grassy tile to bring the creature into play.

The game contains over 180 puzzles ranging from elementary to extremely challenging, introducing new monsters and mechanics as you progress. It offers a color‑blind‑friendly mode, customizable controls, and partial controller support, though the experience is optimized for keyboard use.

01 / THE GUIDE

Recipes and Monster Creation

Every level displays a set of recipes that map bean colour combinations to monster types. For example, a red bean plus a yellow bean creates the orange dinosaur‑looking “roller”, while two green beans produce the yellow “bomb”.

To summon a monster you place the required beans on a grassy tile and shoot the tile with the magic wand. The monster appears immediately and can act according to its built‑in behavior.

  • Compare all available recipes before committing beans to a tile.
  • Note which monsters can remove the obstacles you need to clear.

02 / THE GUIDE

Monster Behavior and Hazards

Summoned monsters have distinct actions: rollers roll toward you and will kill you on contact, while bombs explode and also kill you if caught in the blast. Both can destroy cracked blocks that block the goal tile.

Because the same monster can aid or hinder, understanding each creature’s movement and attack pattern is essential for safe use.

  • Observe a monster’s path in a simple puzzle before relying on it.
  • Avoid standing in a tile that a bomb will explode on.

Efficient Resource Management

Beans are the key consumable resource, and puzzles require you to make efficient use of them. You must decide which monsters to create and when, balancing obstacle removal against the risk of self‑inflicted harm.

Strategic bean placement and timing of wand shots help conserve beans while solving increasingly complex grids.

  • Plan several moves ahead to avoid wasting beans.
  • Consider using a monster that can clear multiple blocks at once.

04 / THE GUIDE

Difficulty Progression

Over 180 puzzles unlock quickly, moving from elementary challenges to extremely demanding ones. New monsters and mechanics appear gradually, requiring you to combine previously learned concepts.

Because fresh puzzles appear often, you rarely remain stuck on a single level for long, keeping the experience fresh.

  • Review earlier puzzles for tactics that still apply later.
  • Take brief notes on each monster’s unique trait as you encounter them.

05 / THE GUIDE

Accessibility and Control Options

A color‑blind‑friendly mode replaces bean colours with distinct shapes, ensuring all players can differentiate ingredients. Controls are customizable, allowing you to assign keys that suit your play style.

Partial controller support is present, but the game is best experienced using a keyboard, as the core actions map naturally to key inputs.

  • Enable shape mode if colour differentiation is difficult.
  • Customize key bindings to match your comfort.
