Story and Setting
The narrative unfolds several years before Arkham Asylum, focusing on a youthful, unrefined Batman. The plot centers on a Christmas Eve night where eight elite assassins target him, establishing a defining moment in his career. Gotham is presented in its earlier, less‑controlled form, ranging from impoverished streets to wealthy penthouses. The game introduces early encounters with characters who later shape Batman’s world, such as Black Mask, Penguin, and The Joker. These interactions lay groundwork for the later Arkham titles while offering a fresh prequel perspective.
- Explore both low‑income districts and high‑rise areas to discover hidden story elements.
- Pay attention to early character introductions; they foreshadow later franchise events.

Enhanced Detective Mode
Detective Mode now includes a Case File system that lets players reconstruct crimes in real time. By combining Batman’s cowl sensors with the Batcomputer, users can digitally recreate events and study detailed simulations as they happened. This tool expands investigative gameplay, allowing deeper analysis of seemingly impossible scenarios and supporting the narrative’s focus on early‑career detective work.
- Use the Case File to pause and examine crime scenes for hidden clues.
- Cross‑reference sensor data with Batcomputer simulations for more accurate reconstructions.

Combat and New Enemies
Combat retains classic FreeFlow mechanics while adding foes that demand varied approaches. New adversaries such as the Armored Enforcer and Martial Artist expand tactical options, requiring players to adapt their attacks and counters. Each enemy type challenges the player to employ different aspects of Batman’s combat repertoire, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on skillful melee engagements.
- Observe enemy patterns before engaging to choose the most effective counter.
- Utilize the environment to gain positional advantage against heavily armored foes.

New Gadgets
In addition to classic tools, Origins adds the Remote Claw and Concussion Detonator. The Remote Claw creates tightrope routes or strings enemies from above, while the Concussion Detonator stuns groups during close combat. These gadgets broaden traversal and combat options, letting players devise creative solutions to both movement puzzles and enemy clusters.
- Deploy the Remote Claw to reach otherwise inaccessible rooftops.
- Use the Concussion Detonator before engaging large groups to reduce incoming damage.
