About Balantica

Balantica is an indie strategy title where players assign cards to two twins, each adding hope to opposite sides of a scale. The scale records the hope gap; if the gap becomes too large the scale tips fully and, when balance cannot be restored, the scale’s health is reduced.

After each trial the tilt of the scale determines the twins’ relationship state. Strong Rapport makes future hope building easier, while Conflict makes it considerably harder. The journey to the final alter branches at crossroads, presenting new characters and situations that influence deck choices.

01 / THE GUIDE

Hope Scale Mechanics

Each twin receives hope from cards, filling opposite sides of a central scale. When the difference in hope grows beyond the tipping point, the scale tips fully; if the player cannot restore balance, the scale’s health decreases.

Health loss also occurs when a trial’s despair value is not surpassed. When the scale’s health reaches zero, the journey ends, so maintaining a manageable hope gap and meeting despair thresholds are both essential.

  • Watch the hope gap and try to restore balance before the scale tips fully.
  • Prioritise cards that add hope when health is low to avoid ending the journey.

02 / THE GUIDE

Relationship Dynamics

After each trial the scale’s tilt sets the twins’ relationship to either strong Rapport or Conflict. In Rapport, building hope in the next trial becomes easier; in Conflict, it becomes much harder.

These states directly affect planning because a favorable rapport makes building hope easier, while conflict makes it considerably harder.

  • Aim for balanced hope to keep the twins in Rapport.
  • When Conflict appears, consider cards that boost hope quickly.

03 / THE GUIDE

Card Deck Building

Cards do more than add hope; they provide a variety of effects. Planning a deck involves reviewing each card’s effect and how it may complement others.

Considering synergies helps create combinations that either increase hope efficiently or mitigate penalties, making deck composition a core strategic element.

  • Group cards with complementary effects for smoother hope generation.
  • Test different combos in low‑risk trials to discover useful interactions.

04 / THE GUIDE

Exclusive Cards

Some cards are limited to a single twin, meaning they cannot be assigned to both. This restriction forces careful distribution of exclusive resources.

When building a deck, keep the number of exclusive cards in mind to avoid over‑loading one twin and causing the hope gap to widen.

  • Reserve exclusive cards for the twin with lower hope to balance the scale.
  • Mix exclusive and shared cards to retain flexibility.

05 / THE GUIDE

Journey Crossroads

The path to the final alter splits into many routes at crossroads. Each fork introduces new characters and unexpected situations.

Choosing a route shapes which characters and situations the twins encounter, adding a layer of strategic planning to overall progression.

  • Explore multiple routes to see varied card opportunities.
  • Match a route’s challenges to the strengths of your current deck.
