About Backrooms Society
Backrooms Society drops players into unsettling, procedurally‑generated levels drawn from backrooms lore. Each level offers primary and optional objectives, scattered resources, and hostile entities that must be avoided or exploited for escape.
The game supports solo play or co‑op with up to eight players, features realistic graphics, eerie ambient sounds, and proximity voice chat. Survival depends on managing stamina, sanity, and documenting findings in a personal journal.
01 / THE GUIDE
Procedural Generation
The Metro system creates random, unknown levels for every expedition, meaning layouts, hazards, and loot differ each run. This randomness forces players to adapt on the fly and prevents reliance on memorised routes.
Because each level is generated anew, resources and threats vary, encouraging careful observation of environmental cues and flexible planning before committing to deeper exploration.
- Note recurring architectural features; they may hint at future level structures.
- Conserve stamina early, as unexpected threats can demand sudden retreats.
02 / THE GUIDE
The Hub
The Hub is an infinite subterranean tunnel that links to every level via evenly spaced doors, providing a safe space between forays. A permanently open door leads directly to Traders Keep for trade and contracts.
Players can deposit scavenged items in the Hub, sell loot to vendors, and receive new objectives, making the Hub the central hub for resource management and planning before each run.
- Visit Traders Keep regularly to convert loot into contracts or money.
- Use the Hub as a staging area to regroup and assess stamina before entering high‑risk levels.

Co‑op Multiplayer
Co‑op allows a solo start or a party of up to eight players working together to navigate the backrooms. Teams can share resources, assist each other in combat, and coordinate exploration.
Proximity voice chat adds dynamic reverb, making communication feel spatially realistic and reinforcing the need for clear, coordinated teamwork during tense encounters.
- Assign simple roles—scout, carrier, defender—to streamline group actions.
- Keep voice chat volume balanced; reverb can mask important cues if too loud.

Entity Encounters
Multiple unique entities inhabit the levels; none are friendly and they emit unsettling noises. Some entities possess exploitable weaknesses that can be used to facilitate escape.
Exposure to entities or strange sounds reduces sanity, but drinking almond water restores sanity and helps withstand entity attacks and other harmful effects.
- Listen for abnormal noises; they often precede an entity’s appearance.
- Carry almond water and use it promptly after sanity‑draining events.

Crafting & Trading
Scavenged resources can be turned into gear, easing future runs. Certain loot is level‑specific, influencing which items can be crafted from the gathered materials.
Selling items to vendors in Traders Keep and completing contracts from M.E.G operatives generates money, encouraging a loop of exploration, crafting, and trade.
- Prioritise level‑specific resources if you aim to craft advanced gear.
- Review contract requirements before heading out to avoid unnecessary trips.
