About Backrooms: Extractions

Backrooms: Extractions casts you as a field agent of the M.E.G., sent into the ever‑shifting Backrooms to locate missing operatives, transmit their data, and survive until an extraction window opens. Failure means the Backrooms keep any gear you carried.

The game supports solo play or teams of up to six, with built‑in voice chat that entities can hear, a body‑cam visual style, and a persistent laboratory hub where rank, storage and reputation persist between deployments.

01 / THE GUIDE

Entity Registry

Seven confirmed threats roam the levels: the Smiler, the Wretch, the Hound, the Skin Stealer, the Partygoer, the Balloon, and the Wraith. Each threat has distinct senses, sounds and rules, and the Registry lists those details for reference.

When you record an entity long enough, the footage creates a permanent dossier in the Registry, but only if you survive the encounter. The dossier becomes an achievement that documents the creature’s behavior for future runs.

  • Listen for each entity’s unique audio cue before approaching.
  • Capture early footage to add a dossier that can guide later strategies.

02 / THE GUIDE

Toolset

Before each deployment you choose equipment such as a Detector for signals, a PDA to read interference, a paint gun to mark safe routes, glowsticks that attract little attention, and beacons for strategic placement.

Your camera scans instability, highlights puzzle pieces, and records entities for the Registry. Any gear not extracted is permanently lost, making load‑out decisions a core survival element.

  • Carry a glowstick to illuminate dark zones without drawing much attention.
  • Place beacons near likely agent signals to shorten the path to extraction.

03 / THE GUIDE

Progression

Gear you bring into a level disappears if you fail to extract, but your rank, storage and reputation persist between runs. The LAB serves as a home base where you can stock equipment and spend mission pay on new tools.

Two currencies exist: mission pay for equipment and M.E.G. Credits for cosmetics. Advancing in rank unlocks deeper, harder levels and additional responsibilities within the organization.

  • Prioritize extracting with valuable gear to keep your arsenal intact.
  • Spend mission pay on tools that counter the entities you struggle with most.

04 / THE GUIDE

Levels

The game currently offers seven distinct environments: Lobby, Habitable Zone, Utility Halls, The Suburbs, Paradise, Attic Floorboards and Fun. Missions, loot and entity behavior change between runs, and higher ranks permit deeper operations.

Black Lake and The Office are announced destinations awaiting deployment clearance.

  • Note how entities behave as you explore.
  • Mark safe paths with the paint gun while exploring.

05 / THE GUIDE

Endless Loop Mode

Endless Loop Mode strings together an infinite sequence of levels, with each successive area presenting tougher entities and fewer resources. Supply crates appear between levels to provide limited replenishment.

The mode challenges crews to see how deep they can survive, testing coordination and resource management as threats grow more aggressive and supplies dwindle.

  • Keep track of supplies between levels and review what the supply crates provide.
  • Coordinate beacon placement to maintain a clear extraction path as levels stack.
