About Away From Life
After a helicopter crash you awaken on remote islands where survival is the only goal. You must hunt wildlife for food, gather materials, craft tools, and build shelter while uncovering mysteries on land and underwater.
Away From Life mixes action, adventure, RPG and simulation in early‑access. It offers both single‑player and online co‑op, so you can brave the islands alone or join other castaways to increase survivability.
01 / THE GUIDE
Resource Gathering
Survival hinges on hunting the wild for sustenance and gathering materials needed for shelter and tools. The islands provide edible wildlife and raw items that can be collected directly from the environment.
All crafting and construction require these gathered resources, making the collection loop the first essential activity for any player.
- Prioritize nearby wildlife before traveling far.
- Collect a variety of material types to keep crafting options open.
02 / THE GUIDE
Shelter Building
Finding a spot and building a roof over your head creates a base that shields you from the elements. The shelter gives you a fixed base on the island.
A shelter provides a fixed location from which you can plan further exploration, craft tools, and manage resources.
- Choose a location near water for easier resource access.
- Consider building on higher ground to improve visibility.

03 / THE GUIDE
Underwater Exploration
Diving into the blue depths lets you discover underwater mysteries and collect items that cannot be found on land. These resources add to your overall pool for crafting and survival.
Underwater sites are part of the islands’ mysteries waiting to be uncovered, adding another layer to exploration.
- Mark notable underwater landmarks to avoid getting lost.
- Bring sufficient air supplies before each dive.

Multiplayer Co‑op
You can team up with fellow castaways online, combining efforts to gather resources, build shelters, and fend off dangers. Cooperation raises overall survivability for the group.
Co‑op does not replace solo play; it offers an alternative path where shared tasks can speed progress toward the common goal of returning home.
- Communicate resource needs with teammates.
- Share gathered items to keep the group well supplied.

Achievement System
Steam Achievements track milestones as you play through the game. They give players concrete goals beyond basic survival.
Achievements are earned through documented actions and appear on your Steam profile, offering a sense of progress and completion.
- Review the achievement list to set short‑term targets.
- Focus on one achievement at a time to keep tasks manageable.
