About AudioSurf

AudioSurf turns any personal music track into a dynamic puzzle‑racing run. The game reads the song’s waveform and creates a highway of colored blocks whose shape, speed, and mood follow the music’s rhythm and intensity.

The title ships with The Orange Box soundtrack for a built‑in “Still Alive” ride, offers Steam achievements, online leaderboards per song, full controller support, and family‑sharing on Windows.

01 / THE GUIDE

Music Integration

AudioSurf accepts MP3, iTunes M4A, WMA, CD audio, and OGG files. When a track is loaded, the engine converts its waveform into highway geometry, determining block density and travel speed for the duration of the song.

Because the soundtrack is supplied by the player, each run is unique. The included Orange Box soundtrack demonstrates how a specific song can produce a distinct “Still Alive” surfing experience.

  • Try tracks with a clear beat to see how block patterns line up with the rhythm.
  • Compare a fast‑tempo song to a slow‑tempo one to notice differences in highway speed.

02 / THE GUIDE

Scoring and Blocks

Points are awarded when players cluster blocks of the same color together on the highway. Larger clusters yield higher points for that segment of the track, encouraging strategic grouping.

Each song maintains its own online scoreboard, allowing players to compare their high scores with others who have ridden the same track.

  • Try grouping same‑color blocks together to earn points as you ride.
  • Check the song‑specific leaderboard after a run to gauge your standing.

Character Selection

Fourteen characters are available, and the game lets players choose their strategy from among them.

Characters are chosen before a track begins, letting players match the visual theme to the mood of the music if they wish.

  • Pick a character whose design fits the genre of the song for a cohesive visual feel.
  • Switch characters between songs to keep the presentation fresh.

Steam Achievements & Online Scoreboards

AudioSurf uses Steamworks to provide full Steam achievement support, which appear on a player’s Steam Community profile after meeting defined milestones.

Online leaderboards are kept per song, enabling global comparison of scores and tracking of personal progress over time.

  • Review your achievement list to spot milestones you have not yet reached.
  • Browse the song‑specific leaderboards to see which tracks other players excel at.

Platform and Controller Support

AudioSurf is released on Windows via Steam and includes full controller support, allowing the game to be played with a gamepad without requiring other input devices.

The title also supports Steam Family Sharing, so a shared library can be accessed by multiple accounts on the same platform.

  • If you own a compatible controller, try it to experience the game’s input feel.
  • Use Family Sharing to let a friend try the game without purchasing a separate copy.
