About American Truck Simulator
American Truck Simulator lets you drive iconic American trucks across California, Nevada, and Arizona, delivering a wide range of cargoes. The game expands the Euro Truck Simulator 2 model with new trucks, trailers, and detailed environments.
You start as a hired driver, work the freight market, and can eventually own a company, manage garages, and hire drivers while enjoying music, photo mode, and extensive vehicle customization.
01 / THE GUIDE
Truck Customisation
Players can modify their trucks by changing cabins, chassis, paint jobs, tuning accessories, and engines. Each truck model is officially licensed from well‑known manufacturers, giving a realistic visual and performance feel.
Customisation also includes interior adjustments such as seat position and mirrors, allowing drivers to optimise their view and comfort while on the road.
- Experiment with different paint jobs to keep your fleet visually distinct.
- Adjust seat and mirror settings before long hauls for better visibility.

Cargo and Trailers
A variety of cargo types—from food to hazardous materials—are available, each requiring specific trailer types such as reefers, flatbeds, dumpers, lowboys, and goosenecks. The longest trailers can reach up to 53 ft, testing driver skill during hauling and parking.
Deliveries are made to diverse locations like refineries, gas stations, car factories, and roadworks, adding realism to each job.
- Plan routes carefully when hauling the longest trailers to avoid tight turns.
- Check cargo weight before departure to avoid fines at weigh scales.

Driving Simulation
The game offers detailed simulation settings, including air brake simulation, various brake types (retarder, Jake brake, trailer brake), and multiple transmission options mirroring real trucks. Players can also adjust brake intensity and other parameters.
Following traffic rules is enforced; police will issue fines for speeding or other violations, and overweight cargoes can be flagged at weigh scales.
- Use the route adviser to stay on legal roads and avoid fines.
- Practice brake modulation on steep grades to prevent wear.

Company Management
By delivering cargo safely and improving skills, players can become owners of their own trucking companies. This includes buying garages, expanding the fleet, and hiring drivers to maximise profits.
Management decisions affect company growth, allowing players to build one of the largest transportation networks in the United States.
- Invest in garages near high‑traffic hubs to reduce dead‑head mileage.
- Hire drivers with complementary skill sets to balance your fleet.

Photo Mode & Community
A built‑in photo mode provides editing tools for capturing in‑game moments, which can be shared on the World of Trucks community. Players can favourite images, discuss screenshots, and aim for the Editor’s Pick showcase.
World of Trucks also allows custom avatars and license plates, though joining the service is optional and requires a Steam account.
- Use the photo mode’s editing options to highlight scenic landmarks.
- Participate in World of Trucks to gain feedback on your best shots.
