About 9-Bit Armies: A Bit Too Far

9‑Bit Armies: A Bit Too Far expands the retro real‑time strategy formula with maps that are 400 % larger, new land, sea and air units, and additional game modes such as Survival and Challenge. Players build bases, deploy superweapons and contend with a completely rewritten AI that challenges both newcomers and veterans.

The title offers single‑player campaigns, two‑player co‑op missions, and skirmishes for up to eight armies via online or LAN play. Full Steam Workshop integration lets users download and upload maps, mods and other creations, extending replay value.

01 / THE GUIDE

Co‑Op Campaign Play

Two players can team up in co‑op mode to tackle the campaign’s side‑missions together, working through side-missions together for extra bonuses. This mode is limited to a pair of commanders against a variety of enemies.

Larger multiplayer matches use the skirmish system, which can host up to eight armies. The distinction keeps cooperative play focused while still allowing big battles in other modes.

  • Coordinate unit production so each player covers complementary fronts, such as air for one and naval for the other.
  • Discuss base placement early to avoid overlapping construction zones.

02 / THE GUIDE

Veterancy and Army Leveling

The veterancy system awards points for building structures and destroying enemy units, contributing to an army‑level progression. Points accumulate as you build and destroy, reflecting increased power.

Side‑missions also grant extra bonuses, encouraging players to complete optional objectives alongside the points earned toward leveling.

  • Balance construction and combat actions to maximize point gain each match.
  • Prioritise side‑missions early to add extra points before major battles.

03 / THE GUIDE

Survival Mode Challenges

Survival mode tasks players with building a base while repelling successive waves of enemy hordes. The mode tracks how long you can endure before defeat.

As more waves are survived, additional difficulty levels become available, providing a scaling challenge that tests base‑building and defensive tactics.

  • Establish a solid defensive perimeter early to reduce early‑wave casualties.
  • Upgrade key structures promptly to keep pace with increasing wave strength.

05 / THE GUIDE

Mega Structures and Superweapons

New mega‑sized structures provide extra‑deadly capabilities, while a mobile HQ allows rapid expansion of influence across the map. These additions supplement classic base‑building mechanics.

Superweapons are also introduced, offering powerful options for decisive strikes against enemy concentrations when needed.

  • Place mega structures near resource‑rich zones to protect your economy.
  • Reserve superweapons for high‑value targets to maximise their impact.
