About 1982
1982 is a free retro‑styled action shooter built with AppGameKit. It challenges players with fast‑paced combat, score multipliers, and a variety of power‑ups across several play modes.
The game runs on Windows via Steam, supports single‑player and full controller input, and includes Steam achievements for tracking progress.
01 / THE GUIDE
Game Modes
Arcade mode offers 50 levels that become progressively harder, pitting the player against enemies inspired by early‑80s home computers and arcade machines. Stringing kills together quickly fills the kill gauge and raises the score multiplier.
Survivor limits the player to a single life, measuring how many points can be earned before death. Time Attack gives three minutes to score as many points as possible, using the same unlimited‑energy system.
- Start with Arcade to learn enemy patterns before tackling the stricter time limit of Time Attack.
- In Survivor, prioritize staying alive over chasing every enemy for points.

Power‑Ups
Four power‑up types appear: Energy (green), Laser (red), Rockets (purple) and Shield (cyan). Each can be used twice—once when collected by the ship and once when shot and destroyed.
Catching a power‑up before it hits the ground increases its effect, shown by a heart icon. The enhanced effect restores more energy or makes lasers, rockets or shields last longer.
- Try to catch power‑ups before they land to gain the stronger, heart‑marked benefit.
- When enemy fire is dense, prioritize shield power‑ups for temporary protection.

Scoring System
Each enemy kill awards one point multiplied by the current score multiplier. The multiplier rises by quickly chaining kills, displayed on a gauge at the left side of the screen.
If the player stops killing, the gauge drops, reducing the multiplier. Certain enemies drop coins; picking them up adds 5 pts × multiplier, while catching them (heart‑marked) adds 10 pts × multiplier.
- Maintain rapid kill streaks to keep the multiplier high and maximize points per enemy.
- Collect coins whenever possible; catching them yields double the point bonus.

Multipliers & Abductions
When enough enemies reach the ground, a yellow saucer abducts a man and applies a ×3 penalty to the multiplier. Destroying the saucer rescues the man and restores the multiplier.
Higher multipliers cause abductions to trigger with fewer ground‑reached enemies, making it harder to protect the multiplier as it climbs.
- Shoot the saucer quickly to recover the multiplier loss.
- Stay near the ground to intercept enemies before they trigger an abduction.

Bonuses & Coins
Completing specific in‑game actions triggers bonus coin drops. Coins award 5 pts × multiplier, and caught coins award 10 pts × multiplier. Bonus actions include Arcadia, Astro Blaster, Major Havoc, Missile Command, Laser Zone, Bomberman, Defender, Repulsar, and rescuing three men in a row (2084).
Each bonus condition is tied to a distinct gameplay event, such as activating two remote missile launchers simultaneously (Missile Command) or keeping enemies off the ground for 30 seconds (Defender). Observing which conditions appear most often can guide score‑maximising attempts.
- Watch for the listed events during play to notice when bonus coins drop.
- Record which bonus triggers occur most frequently in your sessions to prioritize those actions.
